iBlueButton is a VA and Medicare approved application for use by 9 million Veterans and 61 million Medicare beneficiaries.

Blue Button
Blue Button is a Federal initiative originally launched in 2010 by the Veterans Administration (VA), the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The goal of the Blue Button Initiative is to make it easy for consumers to access, review and make use of their health records online - otherwise called Blue Button records - and share them with their healthcare providers, when needed. On March 6, 2018, CMS has significantly enhanced the Medicare Blue Button with the launch of its Medicare Blue Button 2.0 program for use today by 61M Medicare beneficiaries. The Medicare Blue Button record enables a Medicare beneficiary using their CMS approved mobile application of choice to access four years of their Part A, B, and D claims data, and turn it into actionable health care information. The VA has also improved its Blue Button program with the launch of its VA Health API (Application Program Interface) 2019 for which Humetrix has been granted access as of December 16, 2019, along with other two application developers. Importantly since July 1, 2021, the Federal Government requires all Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP plans to provide their members access to their data with their mobile application of choice, and iBlueButton has now been able to access these plans which have now met this federal Patient Access rule, such as Humana, Health Partners and United Healthcare.
